CELPiE Travel Fund

Scope of the grants

The Community for Evidence-Led Practice in Education (CELPiE) Travel Fund grants can be used towards the costs associated with attending a single event relevant to evidence-led practice in education.

Awards with a maximum value of £500 each will be awarded in AY23-24.

The CELPiE Travel fund is now closed for AY23-24.

Attending the event must provide clearly identifiable benefits to your current role and should support you to enhance teaching and/or support for student learning and/or the student experience at St Andrews. There must not be any comparable development opportunities already offered within the University.

We encourage you to make informal enquires regarding eligibility by emailing [email protected].

Eligibility

Applications are welcome from all Academic and Professional Services staff (regardless of contract type).

Research postgraduate students who teach are also welcome to apply, so long as attending the event is specifically to develop you as an educator. (This fund is not appropriate for PGR students seeking to develop their research skills.)

Applicants may only be awarded one grant per academic year.

Funding available

You may apply for a maximum of £500. The grant can be used to cover all or part of the following costs: event fees, travel and accommodation, or childcare costs (if you require childcare to attend the event). The maximum that can be claimed for subsistence costs (food and drink) is £30. The amount allocated will never exceed the total cost of attending the event.

Evidence of costs (eg booking confirmation emails, receipts) must be provided in order to claim the funding allocated, which is disbursed only after your output is received (see Application, review and award process).

Grants may be made to multiple Schools/Units for the same event, but a maximum of £500 will be awarded within a School/Unit for a given event. A grant can be shared amongst multiple applicants within the same School, in which case only one “lead” applicant will submit the request.

Criteria for award

The University may restrict the number of travel grants allocated, irrespective of available funds, based on the quality of the submitted applications.

To be eligible for a travel grant, you must commit to providing the following outputs:

  • A high-quality digital resource sharing what you have learned from attending the event (e.g. a short video, blog post, infographic, digital poster, etc), which will be shared via the CELPiE Inspiration Centre. These digital resources can be linked to longer resources or other outputs, such as conference papers.
  • Hosting an informal CELPiE practice-sharing event, online on in-person.

You must specify the nature of your proposed outputs in your application.

Applications will be evaluated against the proposed benefits for the applicant and the University as a whole, and the relevance of the proposed outputs. Applications for which the learning from the event can be shared widely with colleagues in the university community will be looked upon favourably.

Application and review process

All applications will be considered by a review panel consisting of members from CELPiE and CEED. Only applications submitted using the CELPiE travel fund application form and within these time-frames will be considered for review:

  • Applications must be received at least 1 month prior to the date on which you plan to attend the event.
  • There must be sufficient time for you to submit your output and the grant to be transferred before the end of the financial year in July 2024.
  • For events in late July or August, you may make a prospective application towards the fund for the following academic year. In such cases a provisional award can be made, but the funding cannot be confirmed until the new academic year.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis as they are submitted until such time as the fund has been fully allocated.

Awarding grants

If your application is approved, you will be informed via email that you are eligible for a travel grant, which is conditional on providing the outputs specified in your application.

No funds are transferred before the event. The agreed funding will be transferred only after the following conditions are met:

  • You have provided your digital resource for the CELPiE Inspiration Centre.
  • You have organised the date for your CELPiE practice-sharing event.
  • You have submitted evidence of all costs (eg booking confirmation emails, travel receipts).
  • You have provided the cost centre code into which the funds are to be transferred.

Outputs will be shared within CELPiE and may be shared as part of other enhancement activities or events within St Andrews, which may also have an external audience.
