Medical students having a conversationIn April 2025, Dr Sandhya Duggal, a Lecturer in Medical Sociology and Communication Skills from the School of Medicine, attended the UKCCC Clinical Communication Conference 2025. She both attended sessions at the conference and lead one entitled, ‘Enhancing undergraduate clinical communication teaching and learning through AI simulation’. The conference’s main objectives were to enhance learning through:

  • Exchanging best practice and innovation: Shared research findings, interactive workshops, and creative teaching methods
  • Supporting narrative-based growth: Emphasis on storytelling and practical examples as tools to improve patient information delivery
  • Fostering inclusivity and cultural competence: Addressed through EDI-focused sessions and communication across diverse populations
  • Strengthening team and interprofessional skills: Peer, teacher–student, and interprofessional collaboration were woven throughout
  • Exploring digital consent and safety: Tackled consent in digital formats and how foundational communication skills underpin patient safety

You can read more about Dr Duggal’s experience at the conference, and about her own presentation, through her Sway, “Moving Towards Mastery – Learning from Miscommunication.”
