St Andrews Learning and Teaching Conference

Call for papers:  Enhancing Student Employability, 22nd January 2026

We are delighted to announce the third annual St Andrews Learning and Teaching Conference, hosted by CELPiE.

In recent years, the concept of employability has gathered significant attention within the realm of higher education. In St Andrews, a new Employability Strategy was developed this year to underpin our attempts to prepare students for success beyond graduation and to equip them with the skills, knowledge, experiences and self-awareness to create meaningful and fulfilling careers.

The aim of this year’s conference is to bring together academic and professional services staff to share good practices and approaches that support employability provision within our curriculum (including any co-curriculum or extra curriculum activities).

We welcome contributions addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

  • Integration of transferable skills such as career readiness and personal development into academic programmes
  • Interdisciplinary approaches to employability enhancement
  • Authentic assessment (opportunities and challenges)
  • Examples of university-industry collaboration
  • Work-based learning and experiential education
  • Modules focused on employability-related skills training
  • Professional development workshops and seminars
  • Supporting underrepresented groups in career preparation
  • The role of technology
  • Measuring employability outcomes and graduate success
  • Identifying employability skill gaps

We welcome proposals for short talks (15 minutes), lightning talks (5 minutes) and workshops (1 hour).

Proposals can be submitted using this application form.

Closing date for proposals is Friday 7th November.
